Q
Can military duty trigger cataracts?

Not only is my 6'7" United States Coast Guard veteran brother in law Dennis Crowley deaf from his 20 years of Coast Guard service he also underwent cataract surgery last year! (Like me and my sister Pam he underwent the cataract surgery on BOTH his eyes!) Now I suspect the cataracts Dennis battled were Coast Guard related as well! What could have Dennis' Coast Guard duty played in his cataracts?

Hi there

Cataract formation is a normal process in anyone ageing. Even dogs. Some people get them earlier than later. There are many factors that can cause earlier cataract development such as trauma. However, it is a normal process.

Best wishes
