While driving comes pretty naturally for a lot of people, not everyone finds it easy-peasy – especially at the start. In fact, a lot of new drivers, and sometimes even experienced drivers, face what is referred to as driving anxiety.

The fear of driving results in anxiousness and can leave one dreading future drives, which negatively impacts your day-to-day life.

Those suffering from the condition tend to avoid driving and experience emotional distress every time they buckle up. 

While driving anxiety sometimes has a way of working itself out over time, some people can struggle with it for years.

Luckily, there are a few ways to help yourself overcome the anxiousness you feel whenever you need to get behind the wheel.

Tips from longtime drivers

The 27-year-old Kay, who has been driving for six years, shared how getting practice was the best way to overcome her fear of driving.

She also advises new drivers to try and have an experienced driver with them who can guide them as they go.
