Q
Repair throat and chronic sore throat from chronic hard coughing

How do you repair a damaged throat from months of very very hard coughing fits? I had bronchitis 4 months ago which resulted in hard coughing. I have had a sore throat now for months and its not getting better. I have been to urgent care twice. They put me on antibiotics for ten days due to bright red throat and my severe pain... Antibitics did not work. I have tried several supplements.. NAC, Vitamin C, Echinacia, Please help I just want ,my throat to feel better....It hurts so bad. Ps Live in Gulf Coast of Florida, Female, 43, white, past smoker

A
Firstly, acute bronchitis should not result in cough for 4 months.  Sometimes the cough can last for 4 to 6 weeks, but not 4 months.  Thus, there is likely some other reason for your cough.  Likely culprits could be rhinosinusitis with a post-nasal drip, acid reflux up the food pipe (which may also explain the inflammation), certain types of blood pressure medication, or another cause.  Is this is not a chronic post-nasal drip or acid coming up the food pipe that's causing these chronic symptoms.  You need to have a trial of appropriate therapy and to discuss with your doctor.
