holidaymakers are jetting off to Santorini in Greece in their numbers, according
to Google searches.
In pursuit of #EuropeanSummer - a hashtag with 769.8 million views on TikTok - the holidaymakers were flocking to Europe, and their most favourite places to visit, according to Google searches, included Santorini, Ibiza, Tenerife, Sicily, and more.
This according to a survey conducted by London-based travel agency CV Villa which analysed Google search data for almost every country around the globe over the past 12 months.
Among African travellers, Santorini stands out as the most sought-after holiday location.
This because it ranked number one in searches by 15 African countries, including South Africa, Zambia, Madagascar, and Botswana.In addition to Santorini, other
popular holiday destinations in Greece include Corfu, Kos, Mykonos, Crete, and
Zakynthos - all of which have made it to the list of the world's top 15 most
popular European holiday destinations.
Spain's Ibiza has the second highest number of searches, with dozens of nightclubs hosting performances from world-renowned artists throughout the summer as well as idyllic beaches.
The island is the most popular European holiday destination for 29 different countries.
"From lush forests to towering volcanoes and golden beaches, the largest of Spain's Canary Islands has something special to offer for travellers who seek outdoor activities.
"Tenerife is home to a perfect blend of relaxation, adventure, and year-round pleasant weather, which explains why it is the most popular choice for 18 countries around the globe, including Thailand, the United Kingdom, and Iceland," according to CV Villas.
Ibiza is another destination popular among African holidaymakers, intriguing vacationers from eight nations, including Morocco, Cape Verde, and Zimbabwe.
Third on the list of most searched European holiday destinations is Tenerife.
"Sicily, Antalya, Mykonos, Mallorca and Tenerife also make appearances on the holiday searches in Africa, each being the number one result for one country," said CV Villas.
