Six people were injured, two of them seriously, when gunmen opened fire on the occupants of a minibus taxi in Lansdowne, Cape Town, on Wednesday.

According to Western Cape police spokesperson Warrant Officer Joseph Swartbooi, the two gunmen fled from the scene, on the corner of Turfhall and Belgravia Roads, on foot.

"The six victims were transported to nearby hospitals for medical treatment. We can confirm that two females sustained serious injuries. The motive for this attack is now the subject of an investigation by the South African Police Service," he said.
