Actress and singer Nelisiwe Sibiya is among the new personalities that have joined the embattled radio station, Gagasi FM, following the exodus of other on-air personalities. The radio station made the announcement at Black Bistro Lounge at the Oceans Mall in Durban on Wednesday.

The former Durban Gen actress, who dabbled in radio as a teenager, shared how she was appreciative of this opportunity, adding that Gagasi FM was "an amazing brand to work with".

"I feel so honoured and grateful to be part of Gagasi, and I hope to grow as a presenter since I’ve done it before at EKfm, which was a community radio station in Tsakane," she said.

The Mama Ka Bafana singer will co-host Shutdown Yomhlaba with Siphesihle "DJ Sphe Live" Shabalala on Sundays from 6pm to 10pm.

She shared

I feel so excited working with DJ Sphe Live. He is like the Godfather! I believe he will be holding my hand all the time and navigating with me on this new journey I’ve taken. He is so talented, and I feel safe working with him in terms of learning more about radio. What I am looking forward to on my new journey is to learn. I love doing different things so that I can learn more.

Longtime friends and business partners DJ Naves (Lebogang Naves) and Sphe “Sphectacula” Ngwenya known together as Kings of the Weekend will be returning to the controversial commercial station next month following their departure from Metro FM. They will co-host the Gagasi FM Fast Lane with Thandi “Zisto” Mhlongo on weekdays from 3pm to 6pm.

Naves announced his resignation from Metro FM earlier this year and was last on-air on 27 January. Ngwenya announced his resignation on Tuesday adding that his last show would be on Saturday. The two suddenly left Gagasi FM for Metro FM in August 2019. This was after they had signed a three-year contract in 2017 but asked to prematurely terminate it.

It was reported at the time that this was because the SABC allegedly "poached" the duo.

All eyes had been on the Durban-based radio station since presenter Penny Ntuli revealed on Monday that she had dropped the mic on the station as a result of being offered a meagre R2800 monthly salary. The graveyard slot that was meant to be hers was given to Lusanda Mnqayi.

Another presenter, Khaya Dladla, left the station after six years following what he called “a non-conducive environment”. Former Metro FM presenter Hope Mbhele is also not part of the new season line-up.
