She’s been praised for her recent weight loss – but it wasn't vanity that drove Kelly Clarkson to shed the kilos. It was prompted by a pre-diabetic diagnosis a few years ago.
The 41-year-old Grammy-winner made the admission on a recent episode of her talk show after guest-star Kevin James complimented her on her appearance.
“Well, I was told I was pre-diabetic,” she said with a laugh. “That’s literally what happened . . . and well, I wasn’t shocked. I was a tiny bit overweight.”

She added that doctors told her she was “on the borderline of diabetics”, and that she had to do something about it.
“I was like, ‘But I’m not there yet’’. And I waited two years and then I was like, okay, I’ll do something about it.”
Today she “feels amazing” after losing about 20kg.
Last month she opened up about how she lost weight, telling Today it was a bunch of little things.
“Walking in the city is quite the workout," she told People, referring to her move to the Big Apple for her show last year.
She also said she’s “really into infrared saunas right now” and she’s doing the “cold plunge because everybody wore me down”.
Walking the dogs in the park with her kids, daughter River Rose (9) and son Remington Alexander (7), is one of the activities that has helped her shift the excess kilos.
And what about her diet? The Stronger singer, who divorced her children’s father, music manager Brandon Blackstock, in 2020, isn't doing anything too extreme.

“I eat a healthy mix. I dropped weight because I’ve been listening to my doctor. For a couple years I didn’t. And 90 percent of the time I’m really good at it because a protein diet is good for me anyway. I’m a Texas girl, so I like meat - sorry, vegetarians in the world!”
Over her years in Hollywood, the original American Idol winner has had to deal with a lot of flak about her size.
In 2020, she told Glamour UK that being thin doesn't always give her more confidence, adding that she got her coaching role on The Voice after gaining some weight.
“I got on the No 1 TV show at my heaviest point, because it was right after I had kids, and it was like they didn’t care,” she said. “Paul [Telegdy, chairman of NBC Entertainment] hired me because he loved my personality, he loved that I connect with people, and I’m really raw and real.
“It had nothing to do with my sex appeal or my look aesthetically. It had to do with me as a person. I think it’s really up to artists to force people to have that mentality.”
