John Legend and Chrissy Teigen are opening up about the intense grief they experienced after losing their son just over half-way into the pregnancy.
In September, the power couple, who have been married for seven years, shared that Chrissy had been hospitalised because of persistent bleeding and diagnosed with partial placenta abruption.
She was induced to give birth to their child, whom they had already named Jack.
The couple, who have a daughter, Luna (4) and son, Miles (2), said that in the aftermath of losing Jack, they’d given themselves “permission to feel complete and utter grief”.
“Every day is so different. So when people ask me how I'm doing I always say I'm okay -today,” Chrissy said in an interview on Good Morning America.
“I didn't know that we could experience this grief and also share it, but when we did, it really meant so much to so many people,” John added. “It was such a powerful experience for me to learn that. I'm just grateful that my wife was courageous enough to do it.”
After losing Jack, a devastated Chrissy posted on Instagram that she and John were “shocked and in the kind of deep pain you only hear about, the kind of pain we’ve never felt before. We were never able to stop the bleeding and give our baby the fluids he needed, despite bags and bags of blood transfusions. It just wasn’t enough”.
The cookbook author also shared that she’d received
thousands of letters from fans after sharing her story, which helped her
through the ordeal.
“Obviously it's so painful to go through something like this as a woman, something that was inside your body that you were nurturing and taking care of.
“But, obviously, there's a father involved. And the support for the both of us has just been so beautiful, so incredible,” she said.
Despite many expressing their appreciation for her candid post, some slammed Chrissy for sharing photos she’d asked John to take of her when she was at her most vulnerable, moments after she lost her son.
“I don't care if you were offended or disgusted. I understand it can be that way for people. It's designed for the people that were hurting. And John was very uncomfortable taking them,” she said.

John said the experience had strengthened their marriage.
“I just know that I love my wife, more than ever,” the All of Me singer said.
“We’ve been through so many challenges together and they’ve made her stronger, and I know that doesn’t always happen when people go through tragedy but I feel like the challenges we face together have made us feel even more sure about who we are together as a couple, and who we are as a family.”
While recent months have been hard, the couple say their two children helped bring back their smiles.
“You don't want to be stuck in bed when you hear the laughter downstairs,” Chrissy said. “It helped so much.”
In an open letter, Chrissy thanked her fans for their
support, adding that they’ll always have little Jack in their hearts.
"I wrote this because I knew for me I needed to say something before I could move on from this and return back to life, so I truly thank you for allowing me to do so,” she wrote.
“Jack will always be loved, explained to our kids as existing in the wind and trees and the butterflies they see.
“Thank you so much to every single person who has had us in their thoughts or gone as far as to send us your love and stories.”
