Rising waters in coastal areas following a significant storm at the start of the week have seen multiple Western Cape residents flushed out of their homes amid flooding. Among the victims of the violent storms have also been marine animals, such as turtles and penguins.
The Two Oceans Aquarium said that around 240 turtle hatchlings were rescued off Western Cape beaches during the raging storm - an unprecedented amount for only a few days.
Talitha Noble-Trull, the Two Oceans Aquarium Foundation's Turtle Conservation Centre manager, said the number of hatchlings rescued in just one day was among the highest ever recorded.
