Sewers freely flowing through hospitals, lack of specialised medicine, and broken equipment that takes time to fix – these are some of the issues that the SA Medical Association (SAMA) said will negatively impact the rollout of the National Health Insurance system.
While delivering his State of the Nation Address (SONA) last week, President Cyril Ramaphosa said he was "looking for a pen" to sign the NHI Bill into law.
On Wednesday, SAMA chairperson Dr Mvuyisi Mzukwa said he was also looking for a pen to instruct the association's legal department to challenge the law when Ramaphosa signed it, because the country was not ready to roll it out.
