In a bid to prevent pupils from taking their own lives, the Department of Basic Education and the South African Depression and Anxiety Group (Sadag) are jointly developing the first-ever teen suicide prevention toolkit for distribution to schools in September.
A special think-tank involving key stakeholders providing research, updates on progress, data and insights is also on the cards to assist in developing suicide prevention guidelines which can be implemented in schools nationally.
The move comes in the wake of a spate of suicides among young people.
