Due to extensive bickering and jeering among political parties in the City of Tshwane council, it took almost five hours to simply adopt minutes of previous meetings, convey condolences and pass a motion.
An ordinary council meeting started at around 10:30 on Thursday morning after the Speaker, Mncedi Ndzwanana, declared a quorum.
As soon as the meeting was constituted, the council veered off the agenda, with the ANC lambasting the City manager, Johan Mettler, for his decision to precautionary suspend five senior officials in connection with the awarding of the Rooiwal tender to a company linked to controversial businessman Edwin Sodi.
