At least 40% of the candidates who made it onto the newly formed uMkhonto weSizwe Party's (MKP) parliamentary list would have been too young to have fought in the liberation struggle.
News24 combed through the list of 200 candidates submitted to the Electoral Commission of South Africa (IEC) and found that 81 of them would have been 13 or younger in December 1993, when the ANC's military wing, uMkhonto weSizwe (MK), was disbanded at FNB Stadium. Some weren't even born.
Former president Jacob Zuma, born on 12 April 1942, is the oldest person on the list, followed by Shunmugunam Ramsamy Moodley, who was born in February 1957.
