Clothing your Bed
As we journey through rainy autumn into the South African winter, you may find yourself at the ideal moment to decide how to spruce up your bed for the best sleep on frosty winter nights (and the cosiest lie-ins on lazy mornings). Similar to the way layered clothing allows for better thermal regulation without becoming overly bulky, winter bedding combined in layers creates optimal comfort while keeping you toasty all night.
Start at the Bottom
The most effective foundation for your comfy bed is a quilted mattress topper. Besides the soft-touch cushioning, the quilted design traps pockets of air that better shield your body against the chill.
Follow this with a brushed cotton fitted sheet. Cotton is a plant fibre that retains its natural thermo-regulating properties when woven or knitted, allowing for fabric that is durable and easy to care for and prevents a warm bed from feeling too stuffy. In addition, brushed cotton enhances the fibrous nature of natural cotton, creating a plush touch and even better thermal regulation through the microscopic air pockets between the brushed fibres.
