A 51-year-old man was arrested in Kariega yesterday, June 22, after he was found in possession of suspected stolen property worth more than R1 million.
The arrest was effected by an intelligence-led operation and also led to the confiscation of exhaust systems, catalytic converters, brand new tyres, steering wheel covers and various diabetic medications.
Police spokesperson, Capt. Gerda Swart, said that at approximately 08:30, SAPS Kariega executed a search warrant at a residence in Dobson Street, Kariega.
"On searching the premises, 74 complete cold end exhaust systems, 300 catalytic converters, 24 new tyres, 60 steering wheel covers and various diabetic medications worth more than R1.2 million were confiscated. A suspect was arrested on a charge of the possession of suspected stolen property," she explained.
The suspect is due to appear in the Kariega Magistrates Court tomorrow, June 24. Investigations revealed that the catalytic converters were taken during a hijacking in KwaDwesi earlier this month. More arrests are expected as the investigation unfolds.
