The third annual Tats for tails tattoo-a-thon is around the corner with pre-booking now open.
Cape of Good Hope SPCA spokesperson Belinda Abraham said the animal welfare organisation will be joining forces with Primal Culture Tattoo Studio for the event that will be held from Monday 24 to Sunday 30 January next year.
For the first time animal lovers and tattoo enthusiasts will have the option to pre-book their registration to the popular event.
“If you book now, we’ll send you a tattoo voucher that you can personalise as a gift for someone you love this Christmas.
“We can’t think of a more meaningful Christmas gift for a tattoo/animal lover because you won’t just be getting them lined for life, you’ll be throwing a lifeline to a rescued animal in their honour too,” said Abraham.
This year the tattoo-a-thon will be sponsored by Coatings Inc and Ultra pet, and supported by KFM’s Brandon Leigh and musical twin duo Peter and John Talmakes known as “the PJ Twins”.
“It’s incredibly rewarding but it is also hard and expensive work to keep animals awaiting homes happy and healthy.
“We know the lines you get for life when you get a tattoo are already symbolic in so many ways, but now they can mean so much more,” said Abraham.
This year the aim is to raise R70 000 in aid of animals in the care of the Cape of Good Hope SPCA.
On average it costs R100 per day to ensure that one animal is adequately cared for.
“With a 7cm x 7cm tattoo costing only R700 and with all proceeds of the tattoo coming to the SPCA, getting just one tattoo means that the cost of caring for 7 animals will be covered for a day or that one animal’s costs are covered for an entire week of care. You’re not just getting a line for life; you’ll be giving a lifeline too,”said Abraham.
Clinton Naidoo, tattoo artist and owner of Primal Culture Tattoo studio, said the SPCA has always been of service to the community. “Being from the community, the Cape of Good Hope SPCA has always been of service not only to myself from a young age, but also to many animal lovers in Cape Town.”
Naidoo added that it has been an honour to offer assistance in various ways since 1992.
“Finally, I was privileged to host the first SPCA Tats for Tails tattoo-a-thon in 2019 and I’m pleased that it has now become a very popular annual event. I see this as my way of giving back and helping animals.”
Natasha Johannes, special events coordinator for the SPCA, said supporters can choose any tattoo design or bring their own along to their appointment.
