The Friendly City Dance Festival, a vibrant and highly-anticipated event that aims at providing a challenging, enjoyable, and friendly platform for children to reach their full potential in dance, will be held from August 3 to 11, with the gala evening and prizegiving taking place on Saturday, August 12, at the Savoy Theatre.

The Friendly City Dance Festival is proud to host 22 participating studios, including representatives from the Eastern Cape, and studios from Knysna and George. This collective effort brings together a captivating programme featuring over 750 solo items, and 100 ensemble items, encompassing a wide range of dance genres including ballet, jazz, contemporary, modern, lyrical, hip hop, national, acrobatics, Irish, and tap.

This year’s esteemed adjudicator is Nigel Lucas, a highly respected figure in the dance community. Trained at the former UCT Ballet School, Lucas excelled in ballet, Spanish, and national dance, and even obtained his solo seal, which is the RAD’s highest vocational exam.

Asive Matai from the Walmer School of Dance.

With a professional background that includes dancing with renowned companies, Lucas brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to the festival.

He is currently the Ballet Master for TDA (Theatre Dance Association), and operates his own dance studio in Somerset West.

Tickets for the daily sessions and gala evening can be purchased via Quicket.
