Minutes after an ambulance was allegedly stolen from the hospital premises in Pofadder in the Northern Cape, two suspects were arrested.
The ambulance was apparently parked in front of the hospital when it was stolen on Saturday, 24 February at about 18:00, said Lt. Col. Sergio Kock, police spokesperson.
After the ambulance was taken, vigilant police members recovered it minutes later on the N14 near the Gamsberg Mine between Pofadder and Aggeneys.
The two suspects, aged 23 and 28 years old, were arrested for theft of a motor vehicle and are expected to appear in the Pofadder Magistrates Court soon.
- In another unrelated incident, three women were arrested in Kimberley on Friday, 23 February, after they were found in possession of suspected stolen goods which were apparently taken from shops in a shopping mall in the city.
While on duty and conducting patrols, Sgt Phumla Mpolokeng was alerted by a security guard at a local mall regarding a suspicious vehicle.
The information was followed up, and the vehicle was stopped and searched, stated Sgt Dikeledi Gopane, communication officer of the police in Kimberley.
On searching the vehicle, the police members recovered suspected stolen goods, including clothing, toiletries, and appliances, with an estimated value of R20 000; all goods believed to have been stolen from shops in the mall.
Three women aged 25, 40 and 43 years were arrested. One is a Lesotho national.
A silver Volkswagen vehicle, allegedly used in the commission of a crime, was also seized.
The suspects were detained and will appear in the Kimberley Magistrates Court soon.
Police urged the public to report and reject stolen goods.
