You awake all sweaty and with a pounding heart. “It’s OK, it was just a bad dream,” you tell yourself.

The occasional nightmare is completely normal. Some experts even believe that nightmares can have their benefits; one of them is by reducing psychological tensions – by letting the brain act out its fears, as explained by Scientific American.

However, there is also research suggesting that night terrors are more likely to increase anxiety in your waking life.
