After returning from an intense workout one night, drenched in sweat, I could not wait to take a nice, warm shower. My face was sticky and bright red, and because I had not exfoliated my skin in a while, I thought now was the perfect time to do so as I cleared the grime accumulated during my gym session. 

I gently massaged a granular exfoliator onto my cheeks, one I had used many times before on my sensitive skin, with no issues. But this time was different; a burning sensation overwhelmed the areas of my face that had turned red due to exercise. I quickly rinsed the product off, but the intense tingling persisted, with my skin feeling slightly raw.
