  • Pregnancy difficulties affected a couple planning to get married.
  • The complications left the bride in the hospital for the foreseeable future; however, hospital staff stepped in to assist.
  • They didn't let the couple's hospital stay stop them from having their special day and organised a wedding.

A lot of brides prefer to walk down the aisle before giving birth. For some, it may be because of religious reasons, such as the Christian belief that children should be born after marriage so God's covenant protects them. For other brides, it's societal pressure and avoiding what other people in their community will say.

This bride was due to get married while pregnant with her twin babies. However, one of her babies decided to join the wedding celebrations without their twin.

Utah couple Alexandria Firby and Josh Nix were set to get married, but they found themselves at the hospital on their wedding day. The bride is expecting twins, and one nearly arrived prematurely, forcing them to rush to the hospital.

"They're going to be monitoring me and the babies closely for as long as they will possibly stay in my belly, and the goal is up to 34 weeks pregnant, which is 11 weeks from now," the bride told Fox News 13. The bride then decided she didn't want to let time pass without celebrating their love like they intended to.

"We didn't think we were going to get to do anything, so we're overjoyed to be having a ceremony," she added. With the support of her groom, "Whatever makes her happy, I'm fully on board with it," the groom said. At first, the couple just wanted to go simple and sign the marriage license while in hospital, but the bride's nurses wanted to give the couple a magical day and organised the ceremony. They arranged a chapel-like setting, rose petal decorations, a wedding cake and non-alcoholic champagne. "We have to do something special," one of the nurses, Kathryn Potter, said.

"Kathryn, Star and Alicia - those three, especially today, they've been in and out of my room all day. Somebody went and got me a dress, Alicia came and did my hair, and they put the cute flowers in," the bride added. After 12 hours of hard work, the couple finally walked down the aisle and exchanged their vows. "This was always the plan; it just may not have been what we intended," the groom said.
