  • Everyone loves chocolate, firstly because it has multiple functions including being an aphrodisiac and a clothing item.
  • And recently we've discovered the ultimate cocktail for all chocolate lovers -  with just three ingredients, this martini is just what you need.

  • We can't guarantee results as far as your sex life is concerned but on taste, you'll definitely be winning.

Chocolate is a universal language that is understood by everyone, its sweet, melts in your mouth and it has multiple functions. From being known as a food product, it has evolved to being an aphrodisiac and it is also used to make realist items like clothes. You might have not seen a chocolate dress before, but I promise, it's a thing.

Back in 2019 organisers of the annual Paris Chocolate Fair held a fashion show with a delicious twist, featuring garments made of chocolate.

Earlier this year models once again wore chocolate during a fashion show, at the launching of the first Salon du Chocolat Dubai Fair, organised in the Gulf emirate. Similar events are held across the globe.

But let's get back to the bedroom. According to the New York Times, chocolate contains two chemicals linked to arousal - tryptophan, one of the building blocks of serotonin, a brain chemical involved in sexual arousal and phenylethylamine, a stimulant related to amphetamine, that is released in the brain when people fall in love.

I first heard of the dessert and alcohol concept in 2017 when I watching my favourite comedy series that unfortunately got cancelled, called '2 Broke Girls'.

The series is about two girls who are from two completely different backgrounds who end up in the same Williamsburg neighbourhood in Brooklyn, US, working as waitresses at a diner. Fast forward to the last season where one of the girls gets a deal to have a movie made about her story - going from being a rich girl, living in Manhattan who ends up losing all her money because he father turned out to be operating a Ponzi scheme.

After her movie gets filmed and she receives a large sum of money, she and her friend decide to open a dessert bar. This business idea was inspired by their unsuccessful cupcake business, and they served some alcoholic dessert.

At first the concept of dessert and alcohol threw me off because it sounded like the perfect recipe to vomit for an hour and need laxatives the next day. However, I flew to Cape Town to attend a Lancewood event at Rooftop on Bree, where they launched their three new yoghurt flavours - Double cream Turkish Delight, Lemon Cheesecake and Chocolate.

The event was curated beautifully with three stations for all three flavours. Each station had drinks specially made to incorporate these flavours. However, the station that got my attention was the one with chocolate where I was served a chocolate martini. A drink I took lightly because I thought, 'what damage can a sweet alcoholic beverage do?' But, to my surprise, it got me buzzed.

Made with just three ingredients you can find at your nearest supermarket, your guests are sure to be impressed this summer. I personally enjoyed this drink and will sure make it for myself and for my girls when they come over for a cocktail night. It's very quick and easy to make, it's aesthetically pleasing and not too sweet.

Here's what you need to make the cocktail:

1. Amarula

2. Premium vodka

3. Chocolate liqueur/ You can also opt for chocolate yoghurt if that tickles your fancy.

4. Cocoa powder to decorate the glass

5. Grated chocolate for garnish.

Mix all the ingredients and enjoy. It's your glass, so unlike the professionals, you're welcome to play around with the ratios to find your sweet spot to making your perfect chocolate martini cocktail for your partner. As rumour has it, it just might help light the fires in the bedroom too.
