Why has this R649 facial cleanser been trending on social media?

• Cardi B revealed that she’s been struggling with persistent acne for three months and asked her fans on Twitter for advice.
• Several fans rushed to her replies to recommend one particular brand - CeraVe, which subsequently trended on the social media platform, and is said to be the most loved brand amongst dermatologists.

Earlier this week, Cardi B shared a close up photo of one side of her face on Twitter, stating that she's been struggling with acne for three months.

Th rapper expressed how her breakouts are really uncomfortable, adding that she’s never had pimples on her cheeks or chin before.  

When her fans suggested that she see a dermatologist, Cardi replied in a follow-up tweet that she had already done that and was given some medication that she claims only made the situation worse. The mother of one also expressed her frustration over the doctor not giving her a reason as to why her skin was breaking out.

Fans and fellow celebs shared their tips, with Kehlani recommending a leading specialist who she thinks can help Cardi with her skin concerns - Sean Garrette. Heeding the music artist's advice, the 'Ring' hitmaker informed her followers that she would be giving professional consultation another shot and would return in two weeks with updates.   

However, an LA-based aesthetician, Nai, did offer some online advice to the Grammy Award-winning star, saying what the star is experiencing with "her skin is fairly common."

She added that she doesn't "give personal recommendations without a consultation," but did share a video from her YouTube channel in which she recommended four go-to products that she uses to treat this issue. These are: Deviant Skincare Enzymatic Cleansing Oil, Naturium Niacinamide Cleansing Geleé 3%, Allies of Skin Molecular Savior Probiotics Repair Mist, and Naturium’s BHA Liquid Exfoliant 2%.  

However, the skincare brand that has reigned supreme since Cardi enlisted the dermatological advice of her Twitter followers, is CeraVe.  

And it's been trending all week on the platform, as fans filled Cardi's replies singing the praises of this brand. 

For those who aren't familiar with this cult professional skincare brand, CeraVe prides itself on the fact that it is developed in collaboration with dermatologists. 

"Whether you need products for your sensitive, oily, acne-prone, combination or normal skin, need a soothing moisturiser for your baby, have specific skin concerns, like eczema or psoriasis, or just want a hydrating serum or anti-aging cream, CeraVe can help," the brand's website declares. 

But while we're on the subject of medical professionals, the other reason CeraVe has been on everybody's lips this week is thanks to Ob/Gyn Dr. Jennifer Gunter, who tweeted that she also recommends CeraVe for use on your 'lady lips'.  

But wait, aren't we not meant to use anything at all on this self-cleaning body part?  

And as we already know, intimate washes and ordinary fragranced soaps can have adverse effects on the vagina's PH balance, causing yeast infections and dryness.

Well, according to an article by Business Insider, and as Dr. Gunter said; "... gentle facial cleansers are great for cleaning your vulva, [but] be careful not to use facial cleansers containing salicylic acid, as these can be irritating and drying." 

Additionally, Dr. Jennifer Gunter is merely offering the CeraVe facial cleanser as an option rather a prescription. 

"While you don't really need to use a cleanser on your vulva, for those who want to take that extra step, this is a good option," Business Insider echoes the Obstetrician & Gynaecologist.
