Urinary incontinence is most often associated with the elderly, but it’s a problem that can affect people of all ages, and from all walks of life.
Simply put, urinary incontinence is a loss of bladder control, where you leak urine involuntarily. It’s common, and often embarrassing, and occurs at varying degrees of severity.
Some people occasionally leak urine when they cough, sneeze or jump, while others have a sudden, strong urge to urinate, and may not be able to get to a toilet in time.
While age does play a part in incontinence, it’s not inevitable. You’re also not immune from it at a younger age. It can be caused by stress factors, it can happen during and after pregnancy, and occurs more commonly with conditions like obesity.
So what should you do about it?
First, consult your healthcare professional to have it accessed. And then ask about the lifestyle changes you can make, which help in most cases. There are also exercises you can do to strengthen your pelvic floor, as well as purpose made incontinence products that can provide symptomatic relief.
