SA's largest e-commerce retailer, Takealot, has partnered with the Gauteng provincial government to launch a multimillion-rand township initiative aimed at creating 20 000 jobs.

The group, which owns retail platforms such as Takealot.com, Mr D and Superbalist, also plans to roll out the initiative in other provinces throughout SA.

Consisting of six programmes, the R150-million Takealot Township Economy Initiative, which was launched on Thursday in Mamelodi, will help train and create jobs for South Africans in a range of areas, including skills concerning SMEs, on-demand delivery driving, franchising, restaurants and stock retailing.
