Animal health risks such as foot-and-mouth disease will limit the growth of the beef production as well as exports, a new report warns.
The Bureau for Food and Agricultural Policy (BFAP) on Wednesday launched its baseline report – which provides a 10-year outlook for South Africa's agriculture and agro-processing sector.
During a briefing, Dr Tracy Davids, director and manager of commodity markets and foresight at BFAP, shed light on the growth constraints for livestock farmers. Davids noted that profitability for livestock farmers has come under pressure due to high feed costs.
