The climate crisis makes the spread of HIV/AIDS and TB faster, according to health experts.
Climate change generally has a bearing on health – this includes illnesses related to heat stress from rising temperatures, the spread of infectious diseases like cholera following floods, and worsened air pollution-related diseases. The matter is so pertinent that the UN climate summit, COP28, which kicks off later this month, will for the first time, introduce a day themed on the link between climate and health.
Recent studies also show how climate change is negatively impacting the ability of people with HIV/AIDS to access treatment and also leading to the spread of the virus.
