Following the success of Isibuko, an album he released in January last year, award-winning afro-pop sensation Jabulani “Sjava” Hadebe is gearing up to delight fans with a deluxe version featuring three additional tracks.

Moreover, Sjava is taking his album on the road with upcoming tour stops in Durban and Johannesburg.

The 18-track album speaks about Sjava’s journey and growth as a musician over his eight years in the industry.

In January, the album was certified platinum with 13 songs going gold and three reaching platinum status.

“The support that Isibuko has received over the past year has been very humbling. This deluxe is really for the fans who’ve supported the album and have wanted more from it. This is a thank you to them,” he said in a statement.

Speaking to City Press on Thursday, the musician said knowing the importance of what he was doing and remembering that it was a gift kept him grounded even through big wins.

The Isibuko deluxe will be released on Friday and it promises to continue the reflective and emotional journey he has shared with his supporters since last year.

Following a three-city sold out Isibuko Tour to support the album in 2023, where he went to the Sunbet Arena in Pretoria, Carnival City in Johannesburg, Buffalo Park, East London, as well as a one man show at the Mbomela Stadium; Sjava is scheduled to embark on a 2024 leg of the tour in Durban and Johannesburg, which will feature performances of the newly released Isibuko Deluxe album.

The first show will be held in Durban at the Playhouse Theatre on 22 June, followed by two nights at the Johannesburg Theatre on 12 and 13 July.

He said even though he was aware that he was capable of filling up an arena, he chose an intimate setup because of the songs that are comprised in Isibuko.

Performing isibuko is so special and the theatre setting is very intimate. I’m looking forward to sharing this special space again and introducing the new songs to all the people who have fallen in love with Isibuko. I chose an intimate setup because the music in the album, the way it is set up, it does not need a large venue.

He told City Press that he would like to go to other provinces, but he could only do that once he receives sponsors.

He added that at the moment, he could only afford going to the places he had included in his tour.

After the deluxe, he said, more projects would be coming, and his supporters could look forward to that.

The DA recently released a controversial election ad in which the national flag is consumed by flames. Many took to social media to criticise the party, with former Public Protector Thuli Madonsela expressing disappointment, saying the DA could have used other ways to send its message.
