In a world starved of good news under the weight of the deadly and highly infectious Covid-19 coronavirus pandemic, the field of HIV prevention and women’s sexual reproductive health has reason to celebrate.

The dapivirine vaginal ring, designed to help address women’s unmet need for new methods to protect themselves from contracting HIV, could soon be available for use by women aged 18 and older in Africa. This after getting a nod of approval from the European Medicines Agency (EMA) on Friday.
