Fear and discrimination: Bara nurses cry foul over Covid-19 treatment

From alleged discrimination with testing, to nurses working while awaiting their Covid-19 coronavirus test results – which later came back positive – and patients under investigation for the virus being admitted into wards with uninfected patients.

These are some of the allegations made against the Chris Hani Baragwanath Academic Hospital in Soweto.

As Gauteng became the country’s new coronavirus infection epicentre last week, nurses at the maternity ward of the province’s biggest tertiary hospital, claimed they were working under a shroud of fear and anxiety about contracting the highly contagious disease.
