Does being anorexic affect osteoporosis?

I love 5'3" actress Sally Field! But she has battled osteoporosis for years. To complicate matters for Sally she was also anorexic. Is there a "tie in" to being anorexic in dealing with osteoporosis? Also Sally is very skinny for her 5'3" size never weighing more than 100 pounds. Is there also a connection to being short with osteoporosis?

Hi Greg
Yes, anorexia can definitely be the cause of osteoporosis because the low body weight suppresses estrogen production (the female bone protective hormone) which can lead to bone loss in the long term.
Small statured, skinny ladies also tend to have lower bone mass because of their tiny frames
