Do you have ringing in your ears?
Tinnitus, which is often referred to as a ringing sound or noises in the ears, is a common problem affecting 10–20% of the population, making it more common than hearing difficulties.
Tinnitus is described as a phantom sound heard mainly in quiet environments, and is perceived to be either in your ears or in your head. Every person experiences tinnitus differently; it can be intermittent or constant, loud or soft or fluctuate in severity and volume.
Unfortunately, tinnitus is often misunderstood by medical professionals, where the worst advice given to tinnitus sufferers is that "you’ll just have to live with it" or "there is nothing that we can do for you".
The bottom line is that there is hope for bothersome tinnitus. By understanding the nature of it, you will be able to regain control. In next week’s article, I will further add to your general knowledge about this common condition.
