Q
Crusty scaly skin lining ear canal

I sleep with earplugs all the time or I can't sleep. For years I have had no trouble with this. I use silicone plugs that eventually wear out and must be replaced. Several weeks ago I noticed that my ears felt wet or damp inside in the morning when I removed the plugs. A few days later they began to itch a lot. Too vigorous scrubbing with a water-dampened Q-tip felt wonderful, at first, but led to slight bleeding. After getting the scabs healed up I still have a crusty, scaly feeling to both ears. Since I can't see in there I don't know what it looks like. It is only the outer ear canal right where the earplugs sit. I know this is related. Can this be a fungal infection like athletes foot? It is NOT going away. Been about 2 months now.
