An inside look at the eye

accreditation

Ever wondered how some people can be short-sighted and long-sighted at the same time? Well one has to do with the lens, and one has to do with the cornea.

Short-sighted people usually have a cornea that isn’t optimally shaped. All laser surgery for myopia has to do, is shave away superficial bits of the cornea to adjust the shape.

The kind of "long-sightedness" that comes as the years pass – 45 is often the critical age – has to do with the lens. The flexibility of the lens diminishes until we’re forced to develop long arms when we’re reading (or give up, and get reading glasses).
