Persistent coughing

I have a persistent cough so annoying and uncontrolled by any OTC, that I am going to start Fentanyl. And when that doesn't work I am committing suicide. why can't anyone help me stop coughing? The only answer apparently is massive opioid and heroin and the like or death by suicide. I put a total POX upon the health care system that can only offer me the pathetic and totally ineffective OTC ingredients of cough suppressants...which DO NOT WORK! Good Day!

Your cough can be controlled and you must not lose hope. It is important that you see a pulmonologist or a respiratory physician. You need a chest x-ray. You should have a trial of antihistamines and steroid nasal sprays. It could also be acid coming up the food pipe. Are you not on blood pressure medication that might be causing the cough? You need to see a specialist to deal with the various causes and to some simple tests and put on some trial of therapies. In some cases you might require detailed chest imaging. Ultimately there are non-opioid medications that can be used for cough. Bottom line is you need to see a cough specialist.
