Dear Berne, constant pain in the lower back can be very uncomfortable. Conditions commonly linked to lower back pain may include: muscle or ligament strain; repeated heavy lifting; bulging or ruptured disks between the vertebrae in the spine; arthritis; irregularities of the spine; osteoporosis. Overweight can also cause problems like lower back pain including the painful knee. Other causes of your swollen and painful knee could include: venous insufficiency; rheumatoid arthritis.
It is suggested that you make an appointment with your doctor so that a definitive diagnosis can be made and adequate treatment prescribed. (MCH).
