How asthma-smart are you?
Asthma is contagious and when I feel chesty, I must be sure not to breathe on others in case they also develop asthma.

Asthma is caused by inflammation of the airways. The bronchi swell and mucus is secreted, making it difficult to breathe.

A peak flow meter measures your temperature.

Cigarette smoke can trigger an asthma attack. As far as possible I should avoid smoky places and say no when my friends encourage me to take a puff of their cigarettes.

I should only take my medication when my asthma is playing up. If I’m feeling fine, there’s no need to take it.

I can test how well I have my asthma under control by regularly using a peak flow meter. Using a peak flow meter is also useful to test how effective my medication is.

You shouldn’t really play sport if you’re asthmatic as it may make your condition worse.

Don’t worry if you start wheezing. If you’re going to have an asthma attack there are other warning signs to alert you.

Severe asthmatics need a plan of action in the event of a severe asthma attack.

Asthma only affects children. By the time you’re a teenager, you’ll 'outgrow' the condition.
