Q
Postnasal drip

No sneezing, no itchy eyes, only postnasal drip. Loratadin or Zyrtec helps, but must be taken 2-3 times a day Suddenly appeared this year. I have no idea where it comes from. Never had any kind of allergies before. The antihistamin stops the formation of new secretions in the nose but large globs in the cough still occur. Best to spit them out instead of swallowing them.

If you have a profuse nasal drip which is clear and no associated sneeze or itching, you may have a condition called Non-Allergic or Vasomotor Rhinitis. An ipratropium bromide nasal spray may help. Otrivin and Iliaden sprays may also help, but they cause rebound blockage if used for more than 7 days (and cause a new condition Rhinitis Medicamentosa).
