'Tortured daily': Animal Welfare Society shuts down illegal pit bull breeding operation in Cape Town

The Animal Welfare Society of South Africa (AWS) swooped on an illegal Hanover Park backyard pit bull breeder and shut down the operation on Tuesday.

AWS spokesperson Allan Perrins said that, amid renewed calls for pit bulls to be banned as domestic pets, their inspectors had discovered a breeder in the gang-infested area this week.

Perrins said inspectors found an unneutered adult male crossbreed dog tethered to a makeshift shelter, an unspayed adult female pit bull, and a pit bull puppy chained and confined in unsanitary conditions.
