Department of Transport officials condemned the protest action by minibus taxi drivers in the Tongaat area on Tuesday afternoon.

Scores of taxi drivers, aggrieved by the recent impounding of some long-distance minibuses, blockaded the N2, near the Tongaat tollgate, north of Durban, just before the afternoon peak-hour traffic.

The impasse caused delays of up to two hours for some motorists.
