Muslim community-based radio station Voice of the Cape (VoC) has removed one of its presenters from its programme after an image of him and Cape Town mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis celebrating Eid went viral.

The radio station, in a statement, said it was aware of one of its freelance presenters, Shafiek Sedick, having an Eid-al-Fitr lunch with residents in Wynberg and Hill-Lewis on Thursday after complaints were received.

"The initial post purportedly stated that Sedick was one of the hosts of this gathering. It should be noted that as soon as VoC became aware of the matter on Friday, 12 April 2024, we acted with urgency," it said.
