A 39-year-old alleged murderer handed himself over to SAPS KwaDwesi detectives following the death of his girlfriend yesterday, July 12.
On Monday evening between 22:00 and 23:00, Nompumelelo Mabhoza (40) and her boyfriend were drinking together and later allegedly got into an argument after which Mabhoza was assaulted.
"She was hit with a plank on the head," said police spokesperson, Capt. Sandra Janse van Rensburg.
"After the brawl, they both went to bed. The suspect left the house on Tuesday morning and when he later returned at approximately 18:30, he noticed that she was still in bed but was not responding. The suspect, accompanied by his brother, reported the incident at SAPS Kwadwesi," Janse van Rensburg added.
"Police went to the house in Mdwara Street, Govan Mbeki, where they found her dead with visible injuries to her face."
The suspect was arrested on charges of murder and will appear in the New Brighton Magistrates Court tomorrow, July 14.
