The next-generation Apple Watch Series 8 is the perfect all-rounder for health, well-being and fitness tracking. It is powered by Apple’s new watchOS 9 that offers new features like AFib History, and apps like the redesigned Compass, an all-new Workout app, Sleep tracking and Medications.

How do you get your hands on the global best-selling smartwatch with groundbreaking technology and performance you ask? Apple Watch Series 8 is available at iStore, from R9,999. You could pay less when you trade in your current Apple Watch and trade up at iStore.

Level up and save up to R5,200 when you trade in. You can also purchase Apple Watch Series 8 through FNB Budget Plan, from R414 per month. If you are a Discovery Vitality Active Rewards member, you could fully fund your Apple Watch by achieving all your Vitality Active Rewards exercise goals over 24 months.

Series 8 comes with a free six-month subscription to React Plus when purchased at the iStore. It provides access to an armed response service 24/7, powered by CAP. It includes a panic button that is monitored by a 24 hour command centre who will dispatch armed response immediately if you’re in danger.

You've now made your decisions and you want to upgrade to the new Apple Watch Series 8? Here’s are some of the features you can expect:

Apple Watch Series 8 introduces a temperature sensor that provides more insight into your wellness, and a Crash Detection feature for severe car accidents, bringing you peace of mind. It supportsEmergency SOS with the press of a button. It also offers a deeper look into Sleep Stages to help understand your sleep cycle.

The new temperature sensor features a two-sensor design, one at the back of the watch, nearest to the skin, and another just under the display, to reduce external bias.

Night-time temperature is regarded as a good indicator of overall body temperature, and using the Health app, users can determine shifts that could be caused by exercise, jet lag, or even illness. It is also useful to given women further insights into their cycle that supports retrospective ovulation estimates, period predictions and possible cycle deviation.

Other advanced sensors will let the user generate electrocardiograms (ECG) for the heart, and take on-demand readings for blood oxygen. Users who are diagnosed with Atrial fibrillation (AFib) can turn on the AFib History feature to access important information about their heart.

This is a first-of-its-kind feature for watchOS 9, and has been approved by local authorities for use in South Africa. Users can download a PDF from the Health app to share with doctors and care providers.

On the wellness front, the Sleep app will track the quality of your rest, and provide breakdowns for time spent in REM, core and deep sleep with Sleep Stages. Sleep stage data is available directly on the watch, but more detailed information will be available on the Health app, including heart rate or respiratory rate, in sleep comparison charts.

The enhanced Workout app provides new ways to train, displays Heart Rate Zones, and includes advanced metrics to personalise workouts. New in-session views include segments, splits, and elevation.

Coming later this year is Race Route, for triathlons or activities that include any sequence of running, swimming or biking, enabled by Multisport that uses autodetection to switch between workouts and records transition times.

The smartwatch has an IP6X dust resistant rating, is crack resistant, and is water resistant up to 50m, making it swim-proof for the pool and ocean. It promises all-day battery life of up to 18 hours and up to 36 hours if used on Low Power mode.

An essential companion for a healthy lifestyle, the Apple Watch Series 8 will be available in either 41mm or 45mm sizes, and a wide selection of bands and accessories to customise from iStore.
