SA's biggest sugar producer Tongaat Hulett (THL) has lost its bid to appeal an adverse ruling finding that it must pay R525 million owed in sugar levies despite being in business rescue.

In December, the Durban High Court had ruled that a process which provides protection against creditors did not absolve them of obligations to make payments due to the South African Sugar Association (SASA).
